KNS head instructor Rob Kidnie offers a hands-on 2 day course using the latest technolology, 'Headzone' radio helmets, allowing Rob to give you feedback 100% of the time, NOT JUST ON THE BEACH! We'll also video your practical sessions, and analyse these afterwards with slow-motion replays to identify your areas of improvemment.
Rob Kidnie is an Australian native and has been a sponsored surfer since a young age. He has travelled the world discovering some of the best kitesurfing waves in the world, including Australia, Indonesia, Fiji, Brazil and Peru. Rob has been forced into some very uncomfortable situations - and found his way out of them! Let him share his wealth of knowledge with you. What you will cover:

Forecasting: Know where to find the right wind and wave conditions in your area of choice. Using tools such as the internet,
satellite images and tide charts

Equipment Choice: What gear to choose for different conditions and why. Board size, Strapped or strapless, C-kites vs bow v delta v hyrbrid. Ideal kite choice and size, hoooked in or unhooked. Board leash: when and why.

Spot Analysis: Learn to read local conditions and avoid hazards. How to choose the correct sort of wave for your ability. Correct entry and exit points. Locate riptides and other potential hazards.

Safety: learn how to stay out of trouble and what to do in the worst case scencario, such as when kite gets eaten by a wave, equipment failure, change in weather conditions. Learn the real 'Hawaiian' surf style surf rescue, the quickest and most efficient means of getting yourself safely back to beach.

Surf basics: this where we cover all the basics for dealing with the surf as well as an in intro to the art of wave riding. Front and backside riding, How to jibe. Getting over broken waves, bottom turns, top turns, cutbacks etc

The Kite: How to position the kite and yourself for optimum control and power. Hooked in and/or unhooked. Use of the wind window

Advanced maneuvers: Floaters, re-entries, aerials, tailslides, tuberiding, unhooking, etc
Prerequisite skills:
This course is aimed intermediate to advanced riders. You must be able to stay upwind and be able to ride frontside and backside, and be able to launch your kite from the water.
Equipment: Headzone Radio Helmets, Panasonic HD viseo camera. If necessary you will be supplied with Core (2010) kites and Crazy Fly directional boards and/or a selection of Global Surf Industries Strapless boards.
